The film stars Soumya Sinha, actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, actor Maskini Ghosh and actress Pallavi Joshi in the lead roles. "Chokher Bali" is the second biopic in Bengali cinema after "Shonar Bangla Bete". The film was produced by Rajshri in association with Antara Media. Film reviews from critics were generally positive. "Chokher Bali" was a commercial success and became a blockbuster. The film revolves around the life of a person named Bimala Devi, popularly known as ‘Bela’, who lives in Bhadreswar with her sister-in-law, sister and brother-in-law Mihir Mitra. Bela is deeply attached to her husband Kalipada and has been contented living with him for over twenty years. But fate intervenes in her married life when Kalipada dies unexpectedly from stroke leaving Bela widowed at the age of 31. Later, she suffers the trauma of widowhood and finds living alone in a big house too big an ask. She takes loans from banks and money lenders at exorbitant interest rates. The bank officer's attempts to convince Bela through kind words about the hard reality of life is not enough for her to face the harshness of life. Nor is her sister-in-law able to console Bela in any way. Her brother-in-law Mihir Mitra, who got married to Bela's younger sister Laxmi after Kalipada's death, also finds that he is unable to do anything about Bela’s delinquent ways. Bela, who is a well-read article writer, gets her first chance to feature in a Sunday magazine. Through this, she gets into contact with a lot of people from different walks of life and becomes an inspiration to many.The music was composed by Soham Chakraborty and the lyrics were penned by Prasenjit Samanta.
